Ruling party wants to nominate Leyla Aliyeva for deputy

Azerbaijan’s ruling party, The New Azerbaijan Party (Yeni Azərbaycan Partiyası, or “YAP”), will support Ilham Aliyev’s oldest daughter, Leyla Aliyeva, if her candidacy is put forward for the November parliamentary elections, Turan reported on July 6, 2015.

“There are numerous complaints from members of the party on the nomination of Leyla Aliyeva’s candidacy. However, the candidacy may be nominated with her personal consent, ” Turan quoted YAP Deputy  Executive Secretary Siyavush Novruzov as saying.

Speaking about Leyla Aliyeva’s achievements, he mentioned the campaign “Justice for Khojaly”, support for the Azerbaijani youth studying abroad, help the poor and sick children, promotion of Azerbaijani culture, the struggle in the international organizations for the just case of Azerbaijan, etc .. All of this gives rise to a unanimous electing  her as a member of parliament, he said. Leyla Aliyeva is the Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.

by the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP), Leyla and her sister Arzu directly own or are closely connected with six five-star hotels in Baku. One more hotel is under construction. They also own two exclusive mountain resorts, and likely have a role in a 10th hotel.

Among the deputies of the current parliament of Azerbaijan  are  Aliyev’s spouse and uncle – Mehriban Aliyeva and Jalal Aliyev.
