Leyla Aliyeva and Emin Agalarov announced their divorce via Instagram on May 30, 2015 after 9 years of marriage.
“For many in Azerbaijan, it’s not a secret that my marriage with Emin has been formal in nature in the past few years. We have lived separately for a long time, in different cities. It’s time to officially get divorced, which we have now done. We remain friends,” Aliyeva, 29, wrote on her
Instagram
account.
Two hours later, Agalarov, 35, made a similar comment on his
Instagram
account and posted a picture of him with Aliyeva: “As many of you may know Leyla and I have lived in different counties for years and the time has come for us to officially get divorced, which we have now done. We remain friends and will continue to raise our children together.”
Aliyeva is Ilham Aliyev’s oldest daughter and Vice President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation. Emin Agalarov is the Vice President of Russian development company Crocus Group founded by his father. They got married in April 2006 and have twin sons Ali and Mikail.
