Journalist Khadija Ismayilova has appealed to Binagadi district court to contest the ban placed on her from leaving the country. On her personal Facebook page, she wrote that the lawsuit had been filed in the Binagadi court and was taken into consideration. The court session is scheduled for June 28 at 5 p.m.
She wrote that she has recently recived invitations from the Parliamentary Assembly of the OSCE and from the US Congress, as well as to an OSCE conference on media issues. However, an exit ban on her passport has made her participation at these events impossible.
The ban was imposed on Ismailova on the 5th of December in 2014, after which she was sentenced to 7.5 years in prison for trumped – up charges of tax evasion and illegal entrepreneurship.
On May 25th, 2016, she was released on parole with probation for the remainder of her sentence.
