Today, July 23, the court of appeal in Shirvan district of Azerbaijan partially granted the appeal in case of Yadigar Sadigov, adviser to the head of the opposition “Musavat” party.
Sadigov was sentenced to six years following the local court verdict on January 13, 2014. He was arrested on June 27, 2013 in the wake of the presidential elections, for hooliganism- allegedly beating up a man in a teahouse. Needless to say, the trail preceded in an all too familiar for the political activists manner- unfair and lacking any credible evidence or an independent judiciary.
Former professor at the Lankaran State University (dismissed due to his critical thinking), Sadigov is known as an intellectual, devoted to liberal values and a man of honesty.
Court’s decision today came following the request to obtain an acquittal commented, Sadigov’s lawyer Adil Ismailov. Despite the reduction in prison term, a cassation complaint will be filed added Ismailov.
