Threatened journalist Ayten Mammadova was again invited to the Baku Main Police Office

Investigatons in connection with journalist Ayten Mammadova’s elevator attack are underway.

Mammadova told Meydan TV that she was summoned to the Baku Main Police Department on June 14. The journalist was received by Vugar Alakbarov, deputy head of the department, and head of the operative-investigative group on her criminal case.

“The meeting was also attended by numerous police officers involved in solving the crime against me. The latest developments in the criminal case were reported to the head of the group. At the same time, I was informed about the steps already taken by the investigation”, explained Mammadova.

Ayten Mammadova stated that in the last two weeks she was given no information about the progress of the investigation. However, according to this week’s visit to the police office, the journalist was informed in the department that the operative-investigative measures did not stop during this period, but that the work continued in various directions:

“It was clarified that various investigative technics are being used to find the offender. Tracking what happened before the incident, transfer of information about me, etc. all possible assumptions are being investigated. The head of the group gave instructions on further directions of the investigation”, she adds.

Despite the fact that more than a month has passed since the incident, Ayten Mammadova said she has not lost hope that the perpetrator will be found and punished accordingly.

In the evening of May 8, journalist Ayten Mammadova was threatened with a knife by an unknown person in her apartment building while returning home with her daughter.

Recently, she has been working in the case of the abduction of 10-year-old Narmin Guliyeva. The neighbor of Narmin, Ilkin Suleymanov, is being tried for her murder, but the journalist believes he is being used as a scapegoat to cover up the actual perpetrator or perpetrators.

The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) issued a statement condemning the attack, expressing that “the latest attacks and threats against Ayten Mammadova are an attack not only on her, but on all journalists in Azerbaijan.
