State Statistics Committee: Foodstuffs Prices Rising Still

Prices for consumer goods and tariffs for services in Azerbaijan in March 2017 increased by 1.6% compared to February, in January-March by 13.2% compared to the corresponding indicator of the previous year, show the latest data from the State Statistics Committee of Azerbaijan.

In March of this year, foodstuffs, beverages and tobacco products went up by 3.1%, in January-March – by 17.0%.

Prices for non-food products in the reporting month increased by 0.6%, in January-March – 12.6%. In March, tariffs for paid services rendered to the population rose by 0.5%, in the first quarter – by 8.6%.

Note that in February prices for consumer goods and tariffs for services in monthly terms increased by 1.6%, in January-February – by 12.5% ​​compared to the same period last year.

Economist Samir Aliyev notes that the percentage of inflation indicated by the State Statistics Committee is an average. The situation on the market shows that the prices for products are much higher:

“Some products have hardly risen in price, and therefore 13 percent is indicated as a whole. In any case, inflation is double-digit, and this is higher than the real income inflation of the population.”
