Background:
Meydan TV is an international online media platform for Azerbaijan. Meydan TV produces a range of content including video reportages, investigations, interviews, news features, analytical opinion articles, and infographics on Azerbaijan and the South Caucasus.
For making our globally distributed organization work smoothly and securely, improving our workflows and keeping our data and information on sources safe, we are looking for an IT manager who ideally brings commitment to an important cause and enthusiasm for working in an innovative multi-language journalism project.
The candidate will offer skills and experience relevant to the key aspects of the job, which include:
- Managing and developing the internal information and communication technology of a small, but growing journalism organisation with editors and contributors across the globe working in three languages (Azerbaijani, Russian, and English);
- Administration of the organization’s office software system (currently based on Google Apps for Work);
- Administration of our local hardware, network and backup setup in our Berlin headquarters;
- Tech support for our editors (who bring their own devices, i.e. different systems);
- Establishing and improving secure and encrypted communications, e.g. based on PGP/GPG, encrypted messengers, work chat platforms etc. – with novice users and limited resources in mind;
- Some experience in web development (we are using an open-source, PHP-based CMS called Newscoop, for which training will be provided) and templating or the technical literacy to talk about digital publishing technology with our partner Sourcefabric would be an asset but not a requirement.
Language requirements
- Professional working proficiency in English is required. Proficiency in Azerbaijani/Turkish/Russian would be an asset.
