She mentioned her cellmate once in a letter Leyla Yunus wrote to hear husband Arif. In her letter she
described
her as “hardened prisoner”. Perhaps it was her hardened criminal record history that could explain recent attack on Leyla Yunus.
“Without any reason, she attacked me. She insulted me and threw things at me”, explained Mrs. Yunus to her defense attorney. Despite her complaining to the guards, no measures were taken by the prison management. In fact, when asked for a comment, the management only
said
“prison service has repeatedly expressed its attitude in connection with conditions of Leyla Yunus. The information was published on our website”.
In her personal
letter
explaining the attack and her encounter with the prison head Major Yagubov, Yunus says Major was coarse if not disinterested. Her pleads to switch the cells gave no results.
Leyla Yunus fears the psychological and physical threats and intimidation will continue.
She has not received any treatment from the prison doctor, and none of her medication is given to her since her arrest.
