Changes to Azerbaijan’s legislation on pension law and retirement age were put forward in the Azerbaijani parliament on February 28.
Per the current law on retirement, men may retire at the age of 63, whereas women can do so at 60. The new law would raise the retirement age for both sexes to 65 over the course of the next few years.
The reasoning behind the law is ostensibly to align the average and supposedly increasing life expectancy rate in Azerbaijan with retirement age. However, not all are convinced that the move is just.
