On August 28, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev signed a decree scheduling the parliamentary elections for November 1, 2015.
Some analysts noted that the campaign to the Milli Majilis (Parliament) came amid an atmosphere of political apathy and skepticism of several leading opposition groups,
Turan News Agency
reports. This can be explained by a wave of severe repressions by the authorities ahead of the elections.
According to Turan, during this legislative poll the Azerbaijani authorities may apply new political technology. This implies allowing several candidates supporting Ilham Aliyev to compete in a particular district for the parliamentary mandate and to make a choice at the last minute in favor of the person who will hold the most successful campaign. Therefore, the need for fraud will be minimal. At the same time, in light of the recent repression, opposition will not have enough time and resources to prepare for the elections.
