Baku kicked off the annual Flower Festival on May 10, 2015 in memory of late Heydar Aliyev, the former President of Azerbaijan. The unofficial holiday has been celebrated annually since 2000 to commemorate Heydar Aliyev’s birthday. Festivities last for several days, with rich and varied flower colors on display in the park named after Heydar Aliyev in front of the Central Bank.
