Azerbaijan – EU Negotiations Taking Place in Baku

On June 13, another stage of negotiations on a new agreement between Azerbaijan and the European Union (EU) started in Baku.

On June 13, another stage of negotiations on a new agreement between Azerbaijan and the European Union (EU) started in Baku.

Negotiations will be held in two directions. The first direction – on political and security issues, the second – on trade and investment issues.

The event will continue on Wednesday, June 14.

The first adviser of the EU representation in Azerbaijan Denis Daniilidis stated that “The talks between Azerbaijan and the European Union beginning on June 13 are not connected with the visa-free regime. The visa-free regime and the new agreement between Azerbaijan and the EU are two different things. ”

“For a visa-free regime, it is necessary that one side asks, the other side agrees. Then a mandate is required from all 28 countries. And only then the so-called Road Map will be presented, “Daniilidis said.

The current foundation of the relations between Azerbaijan and the European Union is the Agreement on Partnership and Cooperation, which was signed on April 22, 1996 in Luxembourg and came into force on July 1, 1999.
