Azerbaijani authorities have arrested blogger Khalid Khanlarov and charged him with 25 days of imprisonment for abstructing the police, the blogger’s friends told Meydan TV.
The blogger was detained on January 23. A day before that the Ministry of Interior Affairs has asked him to report to a local police station for a conversation about his activism on social media.
Khanlarov is being held at the Administrative Detention Prison for public order offenders. The Ministry of Interior officials were not available for a comment at the time the news was prepared.
Khanlarov is 20 years old and is a third year student at the Qafqaz University in Baku.
According to the Azerbaijani Political Prisoners Working Group, Azerbaijan currently imprisons at least nine bloggers and social media activists.
