Former political prisoner Bayram Mammadov has been found dead in Turkey. His body was reportedly removed from the sea.
According to an employee of Meydan TV, who is currently in Turkey, Mammadov's friends received the information from the police. Friends said they had not heard from the activist since 2 May.
When they called the police to report him missing, they received the news of his death.
It is still unknown under what circumstances Bayram Mammadov died. His body was not examined by his relatives.
Only a photo of the body was shown to his friends by the Turkish police.
According to his friends, Mammadov was
studying
to begin a university program in Europe.
Bayram Mammadov and Giyas Ibrahimov were arrested on 10 May 2016 after writing the words "Happy Slave's Holiday" on a statue of former President Heydar Aliyev before his birthday.
Mammadov and Ibrahimov were hit with narcotics charges; officially heroin was found in their homes. Sentenced to. prison for 10 years, they were recognized as political prisoners by international organizations.
They were released in March 2019 as part of that year's Novruz pardon.
Bayram Mammadov had been lived in Turkey for some time.
