On August 27, a group of journalists held a protest in front of the Baku Prosecutor’s Office demanding an investigation into doctors’ alleged involvement in the death of journalist Rasim Aliyev,

reports. The journalists were holding portraits of Rasim Aliyev, and six of them were dressed in light green jackets with the word “press” written on them.
One of the protesters, Ramin Deko of Azadliq, told

: “After the admission to the hospital, he [Rasim Aliyev] was conscious; he could talk and move independently. After the examination, Rasim was told that his ribs had been broken. In that case, why wasn’t he tested for internal bleeding as a result of internal injuries? In fact, after Rasim died, it was stated that the reason for the deterioration was internal bleeding! Why wasn’t he immediately operated? He was admitted to the hospital at about 7pm, and he was operated in the middle of the night”.
Tatiana Kryuchkin, a representative of the Institute for Reporters Freedom and Safety, was with Aliyev at the hospital that fatal night. She told Kavkaz Uzel: “We believe that Rasim may have died because of the doctors’ negligence. They should have provided all options and operated him immediately without waiting until he got worse.”
Protesters met with Baku prosecutor Aziz Seidov. The journalists called for a criminal prosecution of doctors, who allegedly did not provide appropriate assistance to the injured journalist. The prosecutor, in his turn, recommended that the protesters submit a written request.

reported earlier, Aliyev succumbed to his wounds on August 9, a day after he was severely beaten by relatives of soccer player Javid Huseynov. Aliyev was assaulted in the Bayil neighborhood of Baku, one of the area’s central streets that is under constant security camera surveillance. He was buried on August 9.
