The trial of Azadliq newspaper financial director Faiq Amirov will begin on May 19 in Sabail District Court. The news was
reported
by lawyer Agil Laidzhev.
Faiq Amirov was detained on August 20, 2016 and charged with inciting inter-religious strife. According to the investigation, Faiq Amirov was allegedly found to be in possession of books related to the Turkish preacher Fethullah Gulen, who is accused in Turkey of terrorism and an attempted coup d’état.
On April 17, 2017, new charges were brought against Faik Amirov under articles 213.1 (tax evasion) and 308.2 (abuse of authority) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan.
Amirov rejected these accusations as far-fetched.
