The new repressions against political prisoners in Azerbaijan
Three weeks ago, on 26 December 2018, popular blogger and political prisoner Mehman Huseynov started a hunger strike in protest against new charges that authorities fabricated against him just months before his scheduled release. After serving a two-year prison sentence on accusations of slander, he could now remain behind bars for up to seven more years. Sadly, his case is not the only one. Azerbaijani authorities have been coming up with new last-minute charges against political prisoners in an attempt to keep tight control over some of the government's most vocal critics, trying to stifle any hope that things could change.

We have a small favor to ask of you. In an environment where information is under tight government control, Meydan TV works hard to ensure that people have access to quality independent journalism. We shed light on stories you might otherwise not read because we believe that those who cannot speak up deserve to be heard, and those in power need to be held accountable. We invest considerable time, effort and resources to do so, which is why we need your help.
Your support empowers our courageous journalists, many of whom work at great personal risk to freedom and safety. Every contribution to the protection of independent journalism in Azerbaijan matters. Thank you.SUPPORT US
