November 29, YARAT art center is hosting the unveiling of a collection of works by participants in Teymur Daimi’s course on art-analysis. The unveiling will be preceded by a public discussion on the topic of “cultural forgetfulness.”
Artist and philosopher Teymur Daimi asks, “why has a strong intellectual tradition still not taken shape in Azerbaijani visual art? Why is it that each new generation of artists is almost completely ignorant of, or poorly acquainted with, the creations of their predecessors and because of this constantly runs the risk of ‘reinventing the wheel’?
After all, the lack of an analytical school in Azerbaijan, and disdain for self-reflection and critical discourse are accompanied by the fact everything produced in the sphere of art and culture will be constantly lost to oblivion.”
The event is being organized by the Initiative Curators Union as part of a project titled, Technical Support for the Creation of a Cultural Laboratory in Azerbaijan.
The project is being implemented within the framework of the Regional Project for Art and Culture in the South Caucasus and is financially supported by the Swiss Cooperation Office for the South Caucasus.
The event will take place on November 29 at 19:00 in the YARAT art center.
