Political prisoner, Abbas Huseynov, is being tortured in prison again, according to his mother.

Speaking with Meydan TV, Rahima Huseynova

says

that her son has been tortured for the past 10 days. At first he was beaten and then left in chains in solitary confinement. For the past two days, he has been kept in the sun, chained to an iron post in the prison yard, from morning until night.

Huseynova says that she contacted Azerbaijan’s Ombudsman, the Penitentiary Service, and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), but the torture continues.

“The state institutions didn’t do anything,” Huseynova told a Meydan TV reporter. “Only the ICRC staff went to see him two days ago. Abbas told them [about the torture], but as soon as they left he was tortured again.”

On 26 November 2015, Azerbaijani police carried out

a raid

in Nardaran, a settlement near Baku, during which four members of the Muslim Unity Movement and two police officers were killed. Dozens of people have been convicted in connection with the incident, including Abbas Huseynov, deputy of the movement’s leader, Taleh Baghirzadeh. In January 2017, Huseynov was sentenced to 20 years in prison.

Huseynov has

complained

of torture before, but the the Penitentiary Service and the Ministry of Justice deny that he and the other Nardaran prisoners have been mistreated.
