Spokesman of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Ehsan Zahidov says that “hostels are contrary to [the] nation’s mentality”.
Zahidov further stated “how can it not be contrary to our mentality to have 4 – 8 people staying in the same room when they don’t even know each other?”, and suggested that hostels be opened only in non-residential buildings.
Zahidov’s statements come in the wake of a raid conducted against a business facility serving as a hostel in Baku on April 11.
“The [hostel] owner didn’t break any law. But complaints from the neighbors obliged police to react to this issue. We conducted an initial investigation and sent the case to court. Now the court will decide what to do”.
Freedom Hostel was located at address Azadliq (Freedom) Prospekt 18.
