Ramiz Manafov set himself on fire in front of Bank Respublika in the early hours of May 24.

It is speculated that the reason for the act was Manafov’s outstanding debts to the bank. Manafov was taken to public Clinic No. 5 for his burn injuries.

The clinic informed Meydan TV that he “is in critical condition. His head, neck, face and breathing passages have been critically affected. He has sustained 3rd and 4th degree burns. He may lose his life”.

According to Yeni Musavat newspaper, after speaking with bank workers he told them he intended to set himself on fire. Bank workers told him his house was in danger of being taken if he were to be unable to fulfill his debts.

Meydan TV was unable to receive a comment from Bank Respublika.
