Leaders of Azerbaijan, Russia and Iran meet for beginning of Baku summit

Trilateral meetings between the presidents of Azerbaijan, Russia and Iran have begun today in Baku.

In addition to regional security, the fight against terrorism and the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, the discussions focussed on military, economic and energy cooperation and the important issue of defining the legal status of the Caspian Basin.

“The three countries are ready to act against terrorism, extremism and crime, including illegal weapons, drug and human trafficking. They urge the global community to join them in their efforts to effectively solve these problems and deal with the threats to international stability and safety from within the framework of the UN” reports a joint written statement made by the leaders of the three countries – Vladimir Putin (Russian Federation), Ilham Aliyev (Azerbaijan) and Hassan Rouhani (Iran).
