Member of the Bar Association of the Republic of Azerbaijan Eduard Chernin has joined Alexander Lapshin’s defense team.
Alexander Lapshin, a Russian-Israeli-Ukrainian blogger that is currently facing criminal charges in Azerbaijan for “public appeals directed against the state” and the “illegal crossing of the state border of the Republic of Azerbaijan”, was extradited to Azerbaijan on February 7.
Lapshin was detained in Minsk, Belarus, in December of 2016 at the behest of Azerbaijan. While both Israeli and Russian officials pleaded for clemency and despite a letter of apology written by Lapshin to President Ilham Aliyev himself, Azerbaijan demanded the travel blogger’s extradition.
