For 25 years internally displaced persons (IDPs) from Nagorno-Karabakh lived in the ‘Energetika’ boarding house, located in the village of Shuvalan in the Khazar District of Baku. And after the boarding house became a hazard, they were resettled from the building into tents.
140 families live in the 71 tents that, according to residents, were set up by the Ministry of Emergency Situations. They live in the tents only during the day, and at night they head off, to their fear and risk, to sleep in their apartments in the hazardous building. They cannot sleep in the tents because of the damp and cold. The settlement is located on the shores of the Caspian.
According to residents, representatives of the Ministry of Emergency Situations promised that after a couple months at ტჰე latest they would be resettled in new apartments. The IDPs had requested previous to this that they be settled in rental apartments, but they never received agreement for this.
The “tent city” has already been visited by Minister of Emergency Situations Kemaleddin Heyderov and bყ representatives from the State Committee for Affairs of Refugees and IDPs. The residents say that already several years now they have been promised that they will be resettled in new apartments, and this time they hope that they can finally get settled in normal apartments.
