Minted coins, expensive pens and chess sets and other luxury items turned up during a search of the recently fired and arrested Ministry of National Security General, Subahir Qurbanov. The search was conducted in houses belonging to the General on Akhmed Javad Street, Samed Vurgun Street, Uzeyir Hajibekov Street and at his dacha in Novkhani.
General Qurbanov was arrested as a result of an investigation spanning from 2009-2015, after which he was accused of abuse of power, illegal seizure of property, professional negligence and a series of other accusations.
In his house on Akhmed Javad Street, the following objects were found and confiscated: a pendant with the image of the Austrian Emperor Franz Josef, an ancient, oval-shaped coin, pearl earrings, rings decorated with six white and brown precious gems, watches inscribed with the word “Geneva”.
Numerous hammered coins were found in the house on Vurgun Street. Those performing the search also found and confiscated a Zeyve rug, a badge with Heydar Aliyev’s likeness, ten silver-colored coins with the inscription “Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, 1924-2009, 85 years, Azerbaijan Republic, 5 manat”, 11 silver-colored coins with the inscription “Azerbaijan Republic, fifty manat, 1996, Mehemmed Fizuli, 500 years”, pens made in foreign countries and valued at $100-300, coins made of yellow metal with the inscription 90 years, “Heydar Aliyev”, two army crescents made of yellow and silver metals and depicting a sword and crescent, a Longines watch, a Frederigue Constanat watch with a brown band, a Dupont watch made of a silver metal with white gemstones, 32 chess pieces made of Swarovski crystal, an IXUS 75 model Canon camera, a yellow- and silver-colored dagger with a depiction of a bear, and a badge made of a silver metal with the inscription ICE Special Agent.
At Subahir Qurbanov’s dacha were found and confiscated a 3D portrait with the inscription “Heydar Aliyev”, a dagger of yellow metal, a Visconti pen, a gift set with the inscription “Ministry of National Security of the Azerbaijan Republic”, a maurice lactrix watch, an East Dupont watch, four CDs, two audiotapes, a FU HUANG watch, a Chopard tabletop clock, which was found in a drawer, a DVR-brand video-recording device for in-room surveillance, cash and documents.
Numerous hammered coins, bracelets, necklaces, pendants, earrings, 11 rings and a bookcase with videocassettes and hand-written documents were also confiscated from the dacha.
And in the other home on Akhmed Javad Street were found and confiscated one pair of Marco Bicego earrings valued at three to five thousand dollars, rings, bracelets, pens, a boxed set (1 pair of earrings and a necklace) with the inscription “RC”, a ring from within a Leo Pizzo box, a necklace, one pair of earrings, a coin made from a yellow metal with the inscription “Valcambi Suisse”, two ten-ruble and seven five-ruble coins made from a yellow metal and in a dark-blue box, a coin with the inscription “Australian Kangaroo”, a coin with the inscription “Azerbaijan Republic, 100 manat”, three coints with the inscription “Elizabeth II Australia” in a glass box, and cash.
