Hearing of Rauf Mirkadirov’s appeal postponed

The hearing of the appeal of journalist Rauf Mirkadirov was postponed until March 16.

The hearing of the appeal of journalist Rauf Mirkadirov continued today in Baku Appeal Court.

APA reports that the hearing presided by judge Abid Abdinbekova was closed-to-the-public.

After the hearing, the lawyer Fuad Agayev said that the session was postponed until March 16.

According to Agayev, the judge referred to the fact that it requires one month for filing an appeal against the decision on the preliminary judicial review. Since one month has not passed, the hearing was postponed.

The lawyer also said that this decision was wrong: “In this regard, we will raise the question of the responsibility of judges.”

F.Agayev also noted R.Mirkadirov’s health problems, specifically his deteriorated eyesight.

It bears reminding that R.Mirkadyrov was detained under the article 274 (high treason) of the Criminal Code. By the decision of the Baku Court of Grave Crimes, he was imprisoned for 6 years. Mirkadirov’s lawyers filed an appeal against this decision and the apparent lack of evidence against the journalist in the crimes of which he is accused. The appeal requested to justify the journalist.

The organization Amnesty International recognized Rauf Mirkadirov a prisoner of conscience.
