Changes in article 147 (slander) and 148 (insult) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan were put forward today at a meeting of the National Assembly.
According to the amendment, the sanction of the first clause of Article 147 (libel, that is, the dissemination of knowingly false information discrediting the honor and dignity of another person or undermining his or her reputation in public speech, publicly-displayed work, mass media or, in mass dissemination, on the internet).
It is proposed to raise the fine from 100 – 500 manat to 1,000 – 5,000 manat.
The draft was proposed for consideration during the plenary session of the Milli Majlis on April 25.
