Background
Meydan TV, an independent Azerbaijani media outlet, is looking for an Editor for its Russian site. The editor will work on an international online media platform that produces a range of content including video reports, investigations, interviews, news features, analytical opinion articles, and infographics about the South Caucasus.
Job Description
The Russian Editor screens, translates, edits and creates submissions for a web-based publication focused on Azerbaijan which publishes in Azeri, Russian and English. Other tasks include researching local and regional media in the region, identifying coverage angles, conducting interviews and writing features, coordinating translations, and technical tasks utilizing locally-developed tools associated with web-based publications.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
• Translate and oversee the translation of investigations, interviews, analysis, op-eds, and news items from Azeri into Russian;
• Build a new international editorial footprint for Meydan TV;
• Develop, pursue, and publish multiple stories per day;
• Edit and provide oversight of Meydan.tv in coordination with current staff;
• Curate content from Meydan TV’s partners;
• Liaise with other Meydan.tv editors to ensure consistency in coverage;
• Provide regular commentary on regional news relevant to an international audience.
Essential Criteria
• A bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or a related field, and demonstrable experience writing or editing for web-based or print news publications.
• Fluency in Russian, Azeri is required, working level proficiency in English is preferred.
• Knowledge of regional culture is a plus.
• Experience with social media and technical website-related tools is preferred.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team under deadline pressure.
