Job Title: Freelance Translators (Azerbaijani to/from English and Azerbaijani to/from Russian)

Background
Meydan TV, an independent Azerbaijani media outlet, is looking for a Translator for its English and Russian sites. The Translator will work on an international online media platform that produces a range of content including video reports, investigations, interviews, news features, analytical opinion articles, and infographics about the South Caucasus.
Job Description
The Translator will translate content from English to Azerbaijani and vice versa for a web-based media platform focused on Azerbaijan which publishes in Azerbaijani, Russian and English. Other tasks include flagging references that may be unfamiliar when translated and providing footnotes as necessary. The Translator will work under the English/Russian site Editor and the Azerbaijani Editor, who will provide material for translation based on an agreed deadline.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Translation of investigations, interviews, analysis, op-eds, news items and other content from Azeri into English/Russian and vice versa;
- Identifying references that may be unfamiliar when translated and providing footnotes.
Essential Criteria
- A Bachelor’s degree in translation, English/Russian language or a related field, and demonstrable written translation experience for web or print news publications;
- Fluency in English/Russian and Azerbaijani;
- Ability to work quickly and independently under deadline pressure;
- Sympathy with Meydan TV’s organizational values of objectivity and editorial independence.
