On 12 March, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry

handed

a note of protest to US Ambassador Robert Sekuta in regard to the visit to the US by president of the separatist regime in Karabakh, Bako Sahakyan, and his meeting with members of Congress.

Azerbaijan’s note states that it is illegitimate to issue a visa to Sahakyan and allow him to promote Karabakh’s separatist regime and raise funds in the US.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan regards these actions as attacks on the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan in violation of international law, the relevant resolutions of the UN Security Council, the US’s own official position on the Karabakh conflict.

Azerbaijan will respond on the basis of reciprocity to the US’s actions, the note says.

Sahakyan is

scheduled

to meet with members of Congress on 14 March.

On 21 November 2017, Azerbaijan

issued

a note of protest over Sahakyan’s visit to France, which, along with the US and Russia, is one of the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group regulating the Karabakh conflict.
