Starting from Sept. 1, Turkish citizens will be able to travel to Azerbaijan visa-free for up to 30 days, according to the Turkish Foreign Ministry .

As Mr. President (Ilham) Aliyev addressed our president last week, Azerbaijan will lift the visa requirements for Turkish citizens as of 1 September. This is fitting to the motto 'One nation, Two states'!" Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu posted on his Twitter page.

Cavusoglu also shared a photo of him taken with Hazar Ibrahim, Azerbaijan’s ambassador to Ankara, where the two diplomats hold a joint letter signed on the new travel requirements.

Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed the news in a written statement posted on July 25.

"The comprehensively developing Azerbaijani-Turkish strategic partnership stipulates the necessity of evaluating the cooperation between our countries in a visa-free sphere and ensuring the free movement of our peoples," the statement reads. According to the statement, visa requirements for Turkish citizens who want to travel to Azerbaijan for up to 30 days will be lifted from Sept. 1, 2019.

In 2007, Turkey unilaterally allowed the Azerbaijani citizens to remain in the country for 30 days.
