Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev ordered the creation of a special commission yesterday to clarify the situation in connection with the formerly-planned demolition of the Haji Javid mosque in Yasamal district.

This was stated by Ali Hasanov, the presidential aide on public and political issues.

According to him, President Ilham Aliyev expressed concern over the situation around the demolition of the mosque.

“The head of state, given the reaction of mosque-goers, instructed us to fully resolve all issues to stop the demolition of the mosque, to comprehensively study the issue, objectively assess the technical condition of the building and to submit relevant proposals”.

Recall that on April 12 in Baku there were clashes between mosque-goers of the mosque “Haji Javad” and police officers.

Mosque-goers oppose the demolition of the mosque, which is included in the list of architectural monuments protected by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
