Alcoholic beverages disappeared from sale in the stores of the Azerbaijani capital, Baku,
Turan
reports. The staff of a major Baku supermarket informed Turan that they had been ordered to remove all alcohol from the shelves. It remains unclear if the sale will resume and under what terms.
Earlier, in December 2015, Ilham Aliyev signed a decree on applying amendments to the Criminal Code and the Code of Administrative Offences,

reports. The decree implied a ban on selling alcohol for cash. However, the decree allowed for purchasing alcoholic beverages with a payment card.
The law came into effect on January 1. Ten days later, alcohol disappeared from the stores. It can no longer be purchased with payment cards either.
