The Azerbaijani Parliament has increased the punishment for ‘discrediting the honor and dignity of the president of the country.’
From now on, ‘insulting the president’ may carry a punishment of up to five years imprisonment.
Another option will be a heavy fine, increased to the amount of 1500-2000 manat. Before, the fine was 500-1000 manat.
The expression of such ideas and words on fake accounts and profiles on social media will cost the user 2000 – 3000 manat; formerly, such a punishment carried a 1000 – 1500 manat fine.
