PACE Bureau Expresses Vote of No Confidence in Agramunt

The Bureau of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) has expressed a vote of no confidence in its leader Pedro Agramunt, says head of the Ukrainian delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe Vladimir Aryev.

The Bureau of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) has expressed a vote of no confidence in its leader Pedro Agramunt, says head of the Ukrainian delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe Vladimir Aryev.

According to Aryev, 19 members of the bureau voted “for” his resignation, three abstained and none voted against the measure.

“The President of PACE, Agramunt, did not write a letter of resignation, did not appear at the Bureau, and accordingly did not make a single statement that he had promised earlier.”

“The Bureau of the Assembly has just expressed with an absolute majority its distrust and refused permission to carry out visits, make statements and conduct other activities on behalf of PACE”, he added. Aryev further noted that the assembly does not have a procedure for impeaching the president, and suggested that PACE’s regulatory committee should develop such a procedure.

“For the past 50 years, there was no need for the procedure committee to develop this procedure”, Aryev said.

Recall that on April 25 at a meeting of the PACE spring session, the issue of a vote of no confidence in the chairman of the structure Pedro Agramunt was raised.

Immediately after the apology of Agramunt for his trip to Syria, where he visited the Russian military base of Khmeimim, and then met with Syrian President Bashar Assad, representatives of the PACE political groups began to demand that the head of the Assembly raise the issue of a vote of no confidence.

Agramunt was elected PACE President in 2016. A year later he was re-elected to the post of PACE President for a second term.
