Gathering in Protest of Detention of Deputy Chairwoman of Opposition Party

On July 24, a group of activists of the opposition Azerbaijani Popular Front Party held a protest in front of the Ministry of Justice of Azerbaijan.

On July 24, a group of activists of the opposition Azerbaijani Popular Front Party held a protest in front of the Ministry of Justice of Azerbaijan.

They came out with the demand to put an end to the inhuman treatment of the deputy chairwoman of the Popular Front Party, Gozel Bayramli, who is in Baku Holding Facility No. 1. Participants in the action held posters with a photograph of Gozal Bayramli and chanted slogans “Freedom!”, “Give Gozel Bayramli her medicines”, “Freedom to political prisoners!”, “No to torture!”.

The police dispersed the protest, there are detainees.

Gozel Bayramli was detained on May 25, 2017 when returning from Georgia. According to the State Border Service of Azerbaijan, Bayramli was holding an undeclared 12 thousand dollars on her person. A charge was brought against her in relation to Article 206.1 (smuggling) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan. Gozel Bayramli said at the trial that this money was planted on her by law enforcement officers, and she was arrested for political reasons.
