Director of the Federal Security Service (FSB) of Russia Alexander Bortnikov
announced
that “Azerbaijani special services have been given information on 100 citizens participating in military operations on the side of the terrorists in Syria and Iraq” at a recent meeting of special service units of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).
Bortnikov also noted that in recent years a number of terrorist cells have been identified and liquidated due to the close interaction of the special service units of the CIS countries.
The exact number of Azerbaijanis fighting on the side of ISIS in Syria and Iraq is not known. According to some reports, 100
militants from Azerbaijan
are fighting in Syria.
According to other media reports,
more than 100 Azerbaijani citizens have already died
in the fighting in Syria.
