Conference “Appeal to the problems of Information Society” held in Baku

On September 29, a conference themed “Appeal to the problems of Information Society” was held in Baku within the framework of the project “Freedom of expression and media in Azerbaijan”, Turan News Agency reports.

On September 29, a conference themed “Appeal to the problems of Information Society” was held in Baku within the framework of the project “Freedom of expression and media in Azerbaijan”,

reports. The conference was organized with the support of the European Union.

The main focus of the conference is the freedom of information as a component of the freedom of expression as well as the implementation of the European experience in Azerbaijan. The initiative aims at contributing to the development of pluralistic media in the country.

During the period of the project from 2015 to 2017 the Council of Europe intends to cooperate with relevant government agencies, local and international experts, universities, professionals, the media and NGOs. Expected results of the project also include the investigation of the facts of pressure on individuals and legal entities, and lawsuits.

According to Turan, during the conference no proposal for improving the conditions of work of journalists and access to information has been made.
